The outer ring holds the cover in place. Hold the cover over the sidewall and spring the band over the tread area of the tire. Dennis/Arkansas

The one on the right looks like a 34 to me. I have one that I would be happy to measure to confirm.

Don't look like 35 to me, the 35 has the center section and a lot more metal in the center, there may be parts missing here. The tire rings are nice to see they usually end up as cycle fenders.

The one on the left looks very similar to the one that was on my '46 half ton panel delivery. I'll try and get a photo for you. Hope this helps.

This is a cover Ford began using in 1940, I think. It was used on Panel Deliveries, Woodies and perhaps Pickups. A strap was riveted on the cover for a more secure mounting. It bolts to the top stud of the spare mounting bracket that holds the wheel. Dennis/Arkansas

are the two covers the same?...one on the left has holes for the chrome trim ring??...if so, my guess is '35.....rings the same, too??...could be for '35, also....'35 also used a locking? hubcap with a strap that went down then wrapped around the tire at the bottom.....at least from picture in '35-'36 Ford book, that's what it looks like....Mike

Thanks All...Mike, there are no holes for the trim ring for the one on the left, I have four of the hub caps, but no straps. I do have one hubcap with a notch in it, but it's on the top. My Granfather passed and my Uncles gave me all his "picker" stuff. He had, I don't know how many hub caps (hundreds). I still haven't seperated them all. There's a stainless sunvisor in perfect shape. It is adjustable and has a bracket in the middle to attach to the center post on the windshield. Dennis, what you have done with those two is what I want to do. I just want to know more about them. Sorry for the rant, but I thank you all again.

This is what a 35 looks like however the stainless trim is not on in my photo and the locking cap and strap is off. This is a 16" wheel and tire.

The one on the right is either a 1934 or 1935 FORD passenger car.
The way to tell the difference is :
The stainless band on a 1935 is 3/8" wide.
The stainless band on a 1934 is 1/2" wide.
MIKE :)

Frank The Plumber - I believe that you are thinking of the 1936 face plate.

One is plain with no holes for trim and the other one has trim. Does anyone know the color of grey Dennis shows in his picture? Thanx...again.

This topic has been pretty well beat to death, however. there just might be room for one more.
The tire cover shown on the right of the pix is most likely a '35 car cover, as shown on the cover of the EFV8 Club of America '35-36 Ford Book and on page 22 of same.
This cover was made for the wire wheels, it measures 26.5" OD.
In the past I have had '36 & 37 pickups. To my knowledge the commercial units, pickups, etc., did not have full tire covers. They had a locking band that was secured to the top of the tire mount, extending over the face of the tire with a cap attached which locked into the wheel.
The '35 passenger cars also had a security cap that was attached to the lower portion of the mount/tire.... see page 22 of the EFV8 Club book.
The cover shown on the left is most likely a later model cover, similar to the ones used on the '49-54 Fords, the '56 T-Birds, and other after market "continental kits".
If the left cover has/had slots for the attachment of stainless trim and it measures 26.5" across then it could be for a 600X16 tire which could make it a '34-35 in lieu of a 14"-15" from the '50's

blucar ....................
That is all true, except:
1934 = 17" tire.
1935 = 16" tire.
I'm not sure if the dimentions of the cover are the same or not.
MIKE :confused:

To beat the dead horse a little more, a friend told me some years ago that my '34 probably had a '35 spare tire cover. The Firestone 17" tire fits just fine. Any comments on this?
