spar plug to air adapter

I am trying to replace valve springs on my 272 without pulling the heads. I bought an 18 mm adapter but it will not screw into my old y block heads. Does any know where to get the correct adapter?

There is another method. Turn the engine over until a piston is at TDC. You can then remove the spring without fear of the valve falling into the cylinder. IIRC it will have a matching piston at TDC at the same time, one on the compression stroke and the other at the exhaust stroke.

My method is to have the piston near top and then feed in some rope as much as you can, be sure to leave a tail, then turn the piston up till you can't go any farther. Now you are ready to remove springs. Back the piston back down pull the rope and you are done.

I took an old spark plug, drilled the porcelain out with a diamond drill bit. Then welded a 1/4" coupler on what was left of the plug. I then screwed a hose into the coupler and hooked air to it. Changed all 16 springs and seals in about 4 hours. Now to set the valves and see what happens.

thanks for the ideas
