Sourcing gauges

Hey folks,

I did a 12v conversion recently, and need to replace all the fauges (except for speedo) with ones that work.

I’ve got a 47 Four door sedan, any idea where I can start looking at gauges?

Right now none of them work and it sure would be nice to know the fuel level and temperature as a I start figuring out how to run the engine cooler.

what I did on our '41 was went to junkyard and found a 70's pick-up, probably later, and bought the gauges, senders & voltage regulators attached to the dash. pick-up gauges are probably plastic. carefully remove the movement from the cases. do same with your '47 gauges (crimped together). don't mix them up as they look identical. place the pick-up gauges in the '47 cases (they fit exactly) and install them in your dash with the regulators to knock the voltage down to 6V and use the pick-up senders on your engine. now you have 12V gauges and senders. I had to shim the gauges away from the glass a bit so the needles would clear. probably could bend the needle if you're careful. I switched amp gauge to a voltage gauge from some kind of car! fuel, I had an aftermarket tank and installed a fuel sender (10-73 ohm) from Yogi's rod shop. installed a Ron Francis voltage reducer (VR-1) to run the stock gauges(up to 3 gauges). you end up with essentially '70's gauges that appear to be '47 and everything operated perfectly on 12V. you'll hear people say the fuel gauge will not operate correctly but mine did.

If your 6 volt gauges worked before, just get one of these and run all your gauges through it. Easy and cheap fix.
