Since you asked about oil leak the other day this post makes me think of my friend who put insulation on the bottom of the floorboard and ended up blocking the vent at the top of the bell housing. Oil poured out the rear main like Niagra Falls.Just did my sport coupe with a product from Lowes called peal and seal. It works great! @ rolls did my car and it made a tremendous difference. The cool part............ it cost $18 a roll. 6inches by 24 feet. Its 95 degree here today and I have been driving it since 6:30 this mornin with no odor. I even did the bottom of the floor boards which made a huge change in engine noise. It is a rubberized self adhesive asphalt material with a foil backing. ver easy to install. I am very pleased.
For me, my Model As are time machines and I want to feel, hear, and smell the whole experience. No sound deadening for me.
I sure wouldn't bother with the plywood. It is a very good insulator in itself.
Could you post a pic of what the Peel and Seal looks like installed on the firewall? I'd like to see if it's black or silver. If silver, what did you do on the inside of the car where it was visible to cover it? Thanks for the idea! I'm excited to go get some to seal up the firewall and quite the floor a bit.
