Something puzzling

I know Ford offered factory air conditioning for the first time in '55 (two years before Rolls-Royce did, likewise with power windows). I've seen two '55 Fords with the factory air option and different dash with the A/C vents in the top of the dash. Rare, but they do exist. But the Ford Accessories book I have for '55 does not show the A/C option--was A/C made available later in the model year after the accessories book was printed and sent to the dealers?

What is the PRINT DATE on your ACCESSORIES CATALOG?

Just two interesting referring URL's -

Thanks for this info. Don't see a print date on the accessories book, but it looks like the one depicted at far right on the top row.

Now that I have had my afternoon happy hour (old man nap) it suddenly dawns on me that SELECT-AIRE was not in the ACCESSORIES CATALOG as it was not an ACCESSORY but either an RPO (REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION) or DSO (DEALER SPECIAL ORDER). The car was assembled/built with it.

To have been in the ACCESSORIES CATALOG, it would have to have been dealer installed or over-the-counter. Everything you see in that catalog is a FORD APPROVED ACCESSORY sold solely through dealerships.

What you need to find is the 1955 FORD OPTIONS LISTING.

Please forgive me now as I need to leave earth orbit for refueling ... :o

For clarification, my '54 came with power windows. '54 Mercs had them too. It also came with a power front seat. Some of the parts in my restoration came from a '54 Merc.

I have a 1954 Ford Victoria with power steering , powerbrakes , power seat and air conditioning . Was it all available as dealer installed only ?

Power windows & seats date back to 49 in Lincoln & Mercury cars. They were hydraulic but worked well.

Lots of weird stuff was out there. My folks had a 54 wagon with the glass roof. I remember it because Mom would complain about the sun coming in so much. Dad bought it used in 60 or 61. It was the nine passenger four door. Six cylinder with an automatic. No idea if it was made that way or modified. I was a little too young to take notic.

The A/C is interesting. Is the evaporator case mounted under the instrument panel? Any I.D./emblems on it?

The condenser is located in the trunk (NOVI air conditioning system model #54-F ).The controls are to the lower left of the steering column .

Interesting. You may have a piece of history. This how period LINC-MERC was mounted.

How are you in taking photos and posting? This needs to be documented.

- EDIT -

If you SEARCH NOVI EQUIPMENT COMPANY, you should be able to find most information.
