Some Sedan Delivery Questions

So, I just wrote a big long story about why I was asking this, but somehow its gone.
So, I'll sum-up.
My name is Christopher.
I've lurked for a while.
I'm wondering what the dimensions are inside the cargo area, and the rear door.
I'm also wondering what kind of load one would handle, with no ill effects. I would think quite a bit, after seeing how many seats are in some station wagons!

Thanks for any and all info.

Year and model make alot of difference inh this question. Ford made 6 differnt versions of the deluxe delivery and panel delivery. I have a 29 130-A Deluxe Delivery.

Okay, I better stop being lazy, and retype what I had earlier.

I'm looking to replace my current work truck. I'm self employed, and live on Vancouver Island, so I don't have to drive very fast. Currently, I am driving a 1950 Chev 1Ton. It has never been restored, and I can see that in a few years, it will need some extensive structural body work. I figure, that it might be good for me to be proactive, find something else, and do a restoration, before I begin to drive it.
I don't often need the capacity of my One Ton, but what I do need, is something to keep my tools dry, and be able to haul some materials. I was originally looking for an AA truck, as it wouldn't be a big deal to build a wood body behind the cab. While I was searching around, I came across a listing for a 1930-31 sedan delivery A. But, its too far for me to drive over to the mainland to look at, without being pretty serious about it. Plus, it seems too pricey for me, as I am not in a hurry to purchase.
I didn't realize that there were so many variants on the delivery theme. I have a 1926 T coupe, and the amount of info about T's on the net is huge, plus I've had some time to absorb knowledge. I love my T, but to be practical for work, I think I need to move to and A, so that I can better keep up with traffic, without resorting to hi comp heads and stuff.
I was figuring that the approximate size of the cargo area on the sedan delivery would let me know if an A would work well for me, even if I ended up building a station wagon, from a wrecked sedan. Does that make sense? An A would certainly be easier to maneuver than an AA. Right now, I'm just starting to think about my options, because I don't want to be in a hurry to either buy, nor during the restoration.
I will admit though, that I lean towards more woodwork, as its good for advertising, and I am certainly more comfortable with it than metal work.
So, I'm not looking for exact specifics I guess. Just sort of estimates. For instance, Rowdy, what size is the cargo area on your delivery?

Christopher

In 1928 only afew prototype Deluxe Delivey's were made late in the year. I beleive that Panel Delivery production started in march (would have to check the books on that one). Do the lower quarters look like a tudor, or are they slightly longer and more square at the back? Here are some pic's of my Deluxe delivery. Also is there one door in back or two? Double doors would be a panel delivery and a single door would be Deluxe. Rod

That is a 30-31 Deluxe Delivery 130-B. The cargo area in the 130-B is longer than the 130-A. Rod

Hello Christopher, I looked in to that Delivery your talking about . Is the one in Chilliwack BC. If so that is not a bad price for it because it is all there. You will pay between 4,000. and 10,000.dollars for an unrestored one and up to 25,000. dollars for an older restoration. They are not cheap to restore either. I have a late 1930 Deluxe Delivery that is almost done. If you have more Questions please ask.

Hi Christopher,

Two things:

1) Don't forget about the pickups. I don't know how much storage you need but a wide bed might work for you. You can always make a box and you would be warmer in the winter if you add a heater.

2) The MAFCA national is being held in Vancouver in August so you might want to come over and visit and check out the different cars.

Mike

Yes, it is the car in Chilliwack.
I'm a wooden boat builder, furniture maker, etc. I generally haul around 300 pounds of tools with me. If I'm bringing my saw and jointer, that adds another 300 pounds. I don't always have so much, but with the One Ton I am driving, it helps to smooth out the ride.
A few times a year, I need to haul lumber from a saw mill, three thousand pounds or so, but that job can easily be farmed out to a friend. I also build doors for houses, and I know that would stick out the back of the Panel.

I've thought about a pick up. Trouble is, they seem to be really popular, and more money than I've got to start with.

I would imagine that I will end up building an accessory body, so I can get the length I need in an enclosed bed. I started off looking for an AA truck, figuring on building a body for it. I've only really been looking for a while, and I've come across two AA's. Part of me is cheap, that's how I ended up driving the 1 ton I've got now, the bigger trucks always seem to be a little less money. I hadn't really thought about using a car, or building a body for a car until recently. A car or small pick up would certainly be faster to get around in, but I do live on an island, so how fast do I really need to get there?
As you can see, I don't yet know exactly what I want. I suppose it depends on the volume I could carry in the sedan delivery. How large are the rear doors on these?

Here are some Panel Delivery pictures if that helps any. I did the restoration on this truck for a guy in Kansas.

Christopher,

Here is an mobile AA service truck configured to haul tools and parts, etc for servicing Fordson tractors on location.

Sounds like the type rig that would be optimal for hauling your boat and wood working tools around. Nice easy access with the side panel open as well. Note the selection of VLC tools (VLC was the European equivalent of K.R. Wilson tools for servicing Fords.)

Fordially,
