Further to my earlier postings where I was looking for help with 2 problems that were particularly bewildering.
1. My fuel bowl was going dry after sitting for 10 days and the 35 ford wouldn't start because the fuel pump didn't have the suction and prime to get the fuel up. I had to make a special bottle with w-d 40 spray pipe to fill the bowl and then it started. There were many comments with different ideas:none of which were the right fix. I had replaced the power valve, new pump and rebuilt carb but the repro gasket between power valve and carb casting leaked. I gave it a dose of thread sealer and the problem has now been fixed.
2. When engine got hot and sitting at a light, engine would starve for gas after going through the intersection. I kept it rolling and pumped the hell out of it so it didn't stop but it was hairy in busy traffic. This turned out to be a fuel pickup which was to high and it sucked up air when tank was less than 3/8 full. Problem solved.
Thanks for all the comments, they helped to rule out some issues. :):):)

Chris, the next time you have to replace the power valve, look closely at the inside radius of the base. This new configuration doesn't fit the old carbs that require squared out valve bases. Either machine the base square or improvise the gasket and you're good to go.
