Solo to Monument Valley

Old Henry,

This question may have been asked before but my wife wants to know what kind of camera you use to take your pictures.

Thanks,
Seth Swoboda

Excellent .......You made my day....it's hard to say anything,....Just can't wait to log some miles on Wudy....

Beautiful!! Had to miss that great area when behind schedule for wife's family event. Hit Page AZ at sunset northbound and had to keep moving. Showed wife these pics just to rub her nose in it a little.

For the still pictures I just use a little simple point and shoot Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS digital ELPH.

For the videos I use an old JVC GZ-HD6U. http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028255

Mounted on a monopod resting on my thigh as I drive.
The original very bouncy image is stabilized in the editing process and by YouTube to give it a very smooth appearance.

It should be noted that the pictures as they come out of my little digital camera are not all that great. I enhance every one with PhotoShop by cropping them, sharpening them, increasing contrast, sometimes adjusting brightness and color saturation. Here's an example:
The preview picture of the road to Monument Valley as it came out of my camera:

And here it is after I enhanced it with PhotoShop:

One other thing that made this picture great was the way I took it. I got way back away from the car and zoomed in maximum to shorten the distance between the car and the far distant formations to give the whole shot a more "intimate" feel. Otherwise, using normal focal length, it would have looked like this:

Not as good.

thanks for the hard work great thread! I am peewee2you's cousin, he has let me drive his 47 fordor, I was surprised how easy the car drove. I think it is a good road car. the 47 felt like it had power steering and power brakes compared to my 36 pickup!

Once again, what inspiration for all of us old car fanatics... truly living in the moment Old Henry rides again, not afraid to travel back the way it was in time, and Pepe the trooper that he is, in his rear window view.. curious? Was the music from the original radio or computer or aftermarket, and on your travels do you have any concern of reception should you get into trouble? etc. cell phone, or do you carry a flare gun or flare's?

Photo's are breath taking, and Old Henry seem to run flawlessly on this trip. Was that I would assume a wild mountain goat? Once again made my morning and the photobucket and video's were a real treat...

I have to ask, lol... you said the Mrs. and her sister was on a life changing retreat? I know you folks are not all that young, but not that old? so changing into what, from our view the life and travels and wonderfully large family photo's what's to change...

That trip is totally awesome. I had the pleasure of visiting Vegas, to go to the west end of the Grand Canyon, and the other way to Death Valley two years ago. Was in a modern rental. Seems your end is even more beautiful. Old Henry just purred thru those videos, and loved the music. What beauty God has given this country, all should experience this part of the country. Thanks for the photos and Videos. Zeke

Was the music from the original radio or computer or aftermarket,

Music was from CD's playing through the radio speaker with a fairly unique system I designed and built very cheaply described in detail on this thread: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66940&highlight=CD+player

I received a couple of copyright infringement notices after posting those videos. That's why the ads are on the videos, to compensate them for use of their music.

No concerns about cell phone service (and certainly no flare guns nor flares). My phone rang right in the middle of Valley of the Gods which shocked me. I thought I was way too far from anywhere for that. It was my wife wondering how I was doing. She keeps tabs on me no matter where I go.

Was that I would assume a wild mountain goat?

That was a longhorn range steer. Same size as a cow.

My wife was invited to go with her sister who was really more interested in it. Even so, as perfect as my wife is, she doesn't always see it that way and is always looking to improve. Just one of the many things I love about her.

One of the plagues of musicians is getting songs stuck in their heads that play over and over and over. For me I've got to hum them.

Ever since the road trip last weekend when I heard "Don't Fence Me In" while at Monument Valley and thought about how appropriate and certainly the theme song for the trip it is stuck in my head like no song has ever been stuck. Not a bad song but over and over and over again is getting old.:(

What can I say but wow!
Sitting here in my house in Uk, the Management is watching Bones, I turn the laptop towards her and say "Look at this guys roadtrip" 'Bones' is now paused and we sit here ooohing & aaahing at the most beautiful scenery I think we have ever seen anywhere in the world.
Yes sure we have old buildings here ( my house was built in 1750) but we do not have scenery like that balancing rock - that is what you guys call truly AWESOME.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to share and rest assured it is on my bucket list to go there some day.

Bob, I have some very strong feelings about your country from fond memories of living up north (Manchester, Leeds, Blackpool area) for two years.

Anytime you're ready to check Utah off of your bucket list let me know and I'll give you the red carpet guided tour. I'd love to do it.

Goes for anyone else too.

Craig aka Prof. Henry
