Soft White LED headlamps

Put bluntly, the OEM headlamps SUCK! I checked out several videos and Paul Shinn tried a set from Newton Wells; the soft white set. I followed the link and found them on Ebay. They were in my hot hands a week later. I installed them and nothing could be easier.

The difference is amazing. Now I can see objects on the shoulders and the light on the roadway is white, not pale yellow. I have a 6V generator, there's no pulsing or other complaints. I drove it about an hour after dark and loved them! The ammeter barely moves when I turn them on.

I had no connection with the seller, just passing along my experience.

Looks like the ones from Newton Wells sell for $42 per bulb (plus $3 shipping) on eBay. ....so $87 for two shipped.

You can get the exact same warm white LEDs from www.ledlight.com (Product Code: 74475 "BA15D LED Headlight 5 To 30 Volt Dual Filament Non Polarized") and they cost only $19.52 per bulb if you buy two (even less if you buy more) (plus $7.70 shipping based on my zip code). .....so that is $46.74 for two.......nearly half price.

Also you can choose either "Warm White 3000K" or "White 6000K" (cool white). I prefer the Warm White ones since they have a similar light color (very sightly yellowed) like the original OEM light bulbs.

They work on positive or negative grounded systems and 6V, 8V or 12V systems as well.

I have no personal relationship with www.ledlights.com but just wanted to highlight the lower price.

A test was published a little while back and the LED bulbs that come with their own reflectors came out best. An added benefit is that the old reflectors don't matter and can be completely tarnished without effecting the light quality.

I guess I should have price shopped. But it's the best money I've spent on the Fordor to date. I used my old reflectors, they seem to work fine, as test indicate.

I too really like the latest generation of LED headlamp bulbs. I chose the focused beam LEDs beacuse my reflectors are pretty tired. I'm very happy with them and so is my generator 😀

Excellent, well researched article in the May/June "Restorer" publication. Worth reading even if not in the market to change headlights. IMO/kb

Based on the recent article in The Restorer, I installed a pair of the new "focused LED headlight bulbs" in my car, where I had halogen bulbs (which draw too much current to drive for long at night with my stock PH generator).

OMG, what a difference. These LEDs are amazing and hardly draw any current, a bit over an amp each. I can barely see the needle move on the ammeter when I turn them on (engine not running).

I aimed the headlights against my garage door at 25 feet from the door, per usual. (There is no focus, just aim.) I aimed the High Beam a bit higher than Ford says in their Service Bulletins. Then I went for a drive. Amazing! I might lower the aim a touch, but wow, they are good.

They beat the other style LED headlight bulbs because on low beam, they keep the light down on the road, out of other drivers' eyes.
