Snyder’s brake lining rivet tool question

Hello, I just started using the Snyders brake lining rivet tool for removing, drilling, countersinking and setting brake rivets. I have all of the holes drilled and am trying to countersink with a drill stop to set the depth. The tool does not seem to cut very well so I assume I’m doing something wrong. I’ve tried by hand, slow and fast, soft and hard with the drill and rocking it some as I drill. I’ve gotten one almost done to 5/64” but it’s agonizingly slow. Any thoughts out there?

Don't know what to tell you. I used that same kind of tool (but I think I got it from Brattons instead of Snyders), and the drill bit that was included worked fine for me.

Re: Snyder’s brake lining rivet tool question

It sounds like the cutting edge of the tool is not sharpened properly. Suggest that you contact Snyder's.

Hate to say this, but is the drill motor spinning in the correct direction for the bit?

Re: Snyder’s brake lining rivet tool question

Good question - yes I did try both directions just in case. I did get it to work eventually, but it seems to be tearing more than cutting. I'll see if I can send a picture to Snyders and ask them if it looks correct. No real sharpening that I can see, so the earlier poster may have hit it.
