Skyliner

Too confuse even further, the "low line" Meteors had the plain Ford dash. Only the top of the line Meteors had the Mercury dash with that unique "space age" control panel and all those levers. Like my 52 Merc has.
The 54 Skyliner Meteor in the Hemmings ad has the 54 Mercury dash.
Personally I prefer the 52-53 dash like mine.

The Mercury Dash was only fitted to the Mercury Meteors. I believe that the regular Canadian 1954 Fords, including the Victoria's retained the earlier Ford Dash.

Here are some pictures of another ex Canadian Glass Top that now calls Australia home. It is a super rare 1954 Ford Monarch Lucerne Sun Valley.

Yes,, you are right on that mercman. Only topline Meteors got the Mercury dash. And please don't take this the wrong way but I'm always critical when anyone refers to the cars as "Mercury Meteors". Its one or the other, in the fifties anyway.
And I think I might have a pair of those Meteor hub caps on my Mercury. Most of the original Merc full disks went missing and I like these Meteor caps as well or better.

In the US, the only Meteor ever offered was a Mercury car from 1961 to 1963. They were based on the Ford midsize Fairlane cars. My Pop had one back in 62 but he traded up to a Galaxy 500 in 65 for more power & room. He didn't like the slant back Mercury cars.

After reading RalphG's comment about me calling the Meteor a "Mercury Meteor" and the Monarch a "Ford Monarch", I asked my knowledgable Canadian friend for help. This was his reply:-
"Ford Motor Company introduced the Monarch in Canada in 1946, and the Meteor in Canada in 1949. The Monarch was basically a clone of the American Mercury, and the Meteor was a clone of the Ford. These two makes were not models of the Mercury and Ford, but individual makes sold by Ford Motor Company in Canada. The Monarch was sold by the Ford dealer, then known as the Ford, Monarch dealer, to give them a higher priced vehicle to compete with their sister dealerships, the Lincoln, Mercury dealers. The Meteor was sold by the Lincoln Mercury dealers, which then became the Lincoln, Mercury, Meteor dealers to compete with the Ford dealers. Ford Motor Company did produce a Mercury Meteor in the USA from 1961 to 1963, but no Meteor was made in Canada during those years."
I think that this clears up the matter. In future, I will call a Meteor a Meteor, and a Monarch a Monarch. We never stop learning.

I think they went to midsize in 62, Ford did not have a mid size Fairlane in 61. I had a 1961 Mercury Meteor and it was a full sized car

The 1961 Meteor (US) was based on the ford Galaxie car and was a one year only car. The 62 & 63 were based on the Fairlane cars so the Lincoln Mercury dealer could offer a midsize car. The Mercury Marauder was based on the Galaxie in 1963 to bring back a performance car to the Mercury line up. I loved those early Marauders.
