Skip's pumps

I finally had a chance to try Skip's pumps out that I installed a couple of weeks ago , it was 88 degrees here in Northern Mi. yesterday. I was able to run my 34 in real slow & fast conditions, as a guess I would say it made a 20 degree difference from the pumps that I rebuilt first then sent them to Skip. Very pleased.

That's great news. I need thermostats to get mine up to 160. The best part is that if you ever have a problem with your pumps you don't have to call China and Skip will be there for you.

Skips pumps do move some water. I had to put another band clamp above the thermostats to hold them in place. After breaking in my cam I had some overheating when driving at highway speed. I found the thermostats cocked sideways in both upper hoses

as Skip says remove the thermostats-in the winter in SC I use a piece of 8 x11 cardboard in front of the radiator to put little heat in the engine

I had the same problem and didn't want to use 2 clamps so I placed the thermostat in the head and drill and tapped a hole in the neck of the head and thru the support tower of the thermostat. No need to tap the thermostat. the screws are above the clamp so no leaks. works for me.

The thermostats that fit in the heads have small flow openings and restrict the flow of water. WHY buy pumps that move more water for better cooling and then restrict the flow??? The only stats that I know that work are supplied by Bob Shewman, gadgiteer@aol.com These are heavy duty all brass and copper that flow a full 1 5/8" stream of water. The hose ID is 1 3/4" and modern stats have less than a 1" flow opening. Bob's stats sit in the front of the upper hoses and sit against the the hose bibs on the radiator preventing them from moving. NO CLAMPS NEEDED. They have preflow passages that allow them to warm up fast and open in less than 5 miles. His stats are 180 and hold my two 39s between 178 and 182 at all times when it is from 50 to 92 degrees outside every time I check the temps and both sides are always within 2 degrees. I find the engines run consistantly good at 180. G.M.

I was able to get my generator rebuilt Saturday and got it back in the car. It was also crowding 90 here in Oscoda. So I took out the 46 with the Skip rebuilt pumps in it and took her for a good long drive and it never went over 160. I also installed a 6 blade fan. last summer it ran 210. Pumps and fan made a big difference. There was no restart problems either.
I'm a happy camper.:)

160 is really a bit low. Maximum engine efficiency is achieved at 180-185.

Thanks Bassman! that's why I run thermostats. I didn't buyS kips pumps to lower the temp I used Skip because he does great work and is as honest as you can get.
