I have a pair of six foot long diamond pattern running boards with the FORD script going crossways. Just what did these come on, originally ? It is not practical to take a photo, as they are being used as shelves.
Thank you,
MIKE BURCH

Std Ford Model T '13 to '25 running boards are 44 7/8" long x 8" wide with the diamond pattern.

Are you sure of the length? Maybe someone bolted a set together for a long shelf.

No, these are original 72" running boards - no patching. They might be "AA" big truck boards.
Thanks,
MIKE :)

72" long running boards

The Model T Parts and Price Lists don't have any Ford factory part # for a 72" long running board. Certainly not a stock Model T part.

As for the AA, think all of those are rubber covered. There was mention and photo of one with rubber covered long running boards on the MTFCA forum a year ago.

Here is the comment:

"The AA from the Bakersfield swap is what's called an Express Delivery, basically an elongated pickup bed, but very hard to find with the extended running boards and rear fenders. Its a 1928 judging by the steel spoke wheels (which are different from A wheels and also hard to find). It should have the worm-drive rear. "

Perhaps they were special made...what is the width...are they 8" or the wider 10" of the Improved Car ('26-'27)? What is the running board bracket mounting hole distance? The Ford T all have mounting holes for the brackets at 26" centers. That may give a clue, but sure don't seem to be Model T.

Most model A truck running boards were steel similar to a T.

The T running boards you have could be for something like the fire truck pictured below. I have both a late 20s Chevrolet 1 ton & an IH 1 ton with long running boards & splash shields that run to the rear fenders. Ford possibly made the same available.

From discussions on the "A" Forum, I have concluded that these boards are 1928 - mid 1930 Express boards. I mis-spoke on the length. they are actually 69 3/4" long.
Thanks for your help !
MIKE :)
