simple green Q....

Experimenting, I placed a water outlet in a quart of water, then I sprayed some simple green into the water...mabe two ounces. Two days later, checked the part and found that most of the rust had been cancelled / removed (?) from the part. So, yesterday upon completion of engine assembly....filled with water and cup of simple green. Started engine and let is get hot. Ready for second torque this morning. Wondering if leaving the simple green mixture in the engine will cause any unforeseen problem...anyone use this stuff in this manner and any experience (good/bad/ugly) to advise ?

Rust is an alkaline soil. And Simple green is an aqueous based alkaline cleaner and not the best for removing rust because it requires an acidic mixture. Alkaline cleaners are best for removing oils and grease

Do a web search on Simple Green as a rust remover to learn more

Oxalic acid (wood bleach), vinegar, or orange juice  is better for removing rust

After I got my Pickup, I researched what to use to clean out the radiator and engine with. Drained the radiator and filled it with 3 gal of white vinegar, ran he engine for a half hour or so and drained. The fluid was a dark color when drained so guess it did the trick. Filled it back up with distilled water till it got cold.
