Simple advice on replacing heater control valve

I finallyyyyy got my 55 crown Vic running again. Transmission is working and carb was built (thanks Sal!). No sooner than it’s up and running but I get a pretty good coolant leak. I replaced the hoses ( probably needing doing anyway) but that didn’t fix it. Turns out it’s the heater control valve mounted in front of the carb in the manifold. I assume a seal went and coolant just leaks out from it.

I’ve ordered a replacement from Dennis Carpenter but of course it won’t arrive in time for tomorrow’s car show. The current valve has been in there for probably decades, and is painted over. I don’t routinely do this sort of stuff, and am expecting this to be very difficult to remove. Any tips for breaking it free? And what do I do upon installation? Eg any sort of thread sealant? Teflon tape? Anti freeze lube like on a spark plug? How hard do I screw it in while avoid damaging anything? Thanks for the help!

So for tomorrow's car show, any chance you can wrench it out and put a threaded plug in the inlet until the new valve arrives. Since it's shot, you don't have to be gentle in getting it our of the intake. Just asking??
