I have a nice original 3 window, but I want to clean the sill plates. They have a lead color to them which is fine with me, but there are stains and a little dullness to them. What would be safe to clean these? Of course they are original and aluminum. Thanks

Hi Barn... I mixed up some very light grey paint with silver,( Aluminum):) and painted them they look good on my 34 sedan , JMO...

I know I could paint them and it probobly looks fine, but this is a car I have had since 1969 and original so I would prefer to have someone tell me what I could clean this aluminum with. Thanks Fred

I wonder if you could use the soap that truckers use to clean their aluminum fuel tanks etc? If so you could probably get it at a truck stop or buy a little from a trucker. Marv

As BrianCt stated, the sill plates are zinc. Zinc just does not polish. Very fine steel wool, or a Brillo pad, is probably going to do the best job of anything, for cleaning them.

You could try Mag wheel cleaner on the back first .,its a bit like oven cleaner (costic) .A very light soda blast might do it .
