Signal Stat 900

Turn signals have been working fine for years and suddenly just quit. No signal lights or emergency flashers or pilot lights. Checked inline fuse to switch - good. Checked power to flasher plug - good. I use original cowl light bulbs for the front, LEDs in the rear, and an electronic flasher. I have tried three different flashers, two of them new, and - nothing. The system is properly grounded as tested with a meter from a power source to the switch itself.

My question - Is the switch itself repairable or should I just throw it away and buy a new one? Never having been in to one before, I'm afraid I'll take it apart and springs, cogs, etc. will fly everywhere. But if I'm going to throw it away anyway, I guess there would be nothing lost!

It's probably repairable, but you have to take it apart to see. Comes apart easily enough but getting the spring back in is a challenge. Take a pic before demolition so you can put it back together the same way. iirc I had to scratch my head a bit to put it back together.

A thread on the HAMB has cover off photos of the 900. All turn signal switches work in a similar manor. If nothing has power then a person has to suspect the power in circuit and the ground path circuit. Any open in the circuit will shut the whole thing down. An Ohms meter can be used to check it utilizing a basic wiring diagram before taking it apart.

The flashers can be tested seperately by connecting the power to a battery with a load lamp or two connecting to the flasher on one end and the battery ground on the other. The pilot can be tested as well but it doesn't provide the load so a small bulb can be used on it like a basic test light. The standard flashers need a fair amount of current load to get the flasher to perform it's on-off function. With LEDs being such a small load, the flasher won't flash. The electronic flashers should work with a small load depending on the design of the flasher unit.

The Signa stat 900's are usually bulletproof units, I have used them over the years on my tractor trailer rigs , the main problem I found is sometimes a wire will come un soldered in the unit , which is an easy fix, I have one on my truck which has been operating for 50 years now without any problems. take the housing apart and check for a loose main feed wire on the circuit board .

Guten Abend Dennisfly,

I repaired this switch some month before. it's a good construction, no China-plastic.
Try to repair it, don't throw away!
