side mount wheel wells

I am going to install a side mount on the left side of my 4 door slant. would like to know how to bend the metal on the fender to mate with the wheel well.

Just a thought but you might try to find a swap (post a wanted here). A lot of people, especially the street rodders (post a wanted on HAMB also), don't like fender wells. My opinion, they are great to free up space inside the car when you also run a trunk in the back.

Does this work directly without changes or will the left drivers side door require a shorter detent/check strap.

Almost every 28-29 Closed Cab pickup has a dent in the door because the short strap has failed.

I thought the dent was factory - and perhaps it was?

I did this on both fenders of my coupe. I measured where the opening was on an original fender of the same year and transferred the measurements to the fender. I marked the opening smaller (around 1 inch all around) to allow for the bend. I cut out the hole with a saber saw with metal-cutting blade. Then slowly bent the 1 inch band down all around the hole using a doll and hammer. The wheel well insert is then welded to the bent edge/band. Go slow to avoid over-stretching the metal. I don't have the exact measurements (I did it nearly 30 years ago).

I've been wanting to swap both of my front fenders with the wheel wells for set of non-wheel well fenders for my 1928 Tudor for over a year with no success.

The car originally had the spare mounted in the back, but the front end was wrecked at one time and the wheel well fenders were put on.

I'm going to paint all 4 fenders this fall or next spring, if I can't find anyone to swap fenders with, I'm going to weld them up.

After getting banged up in an accident a few years ago, it's just too hard to get in and out of the car. The spares in the fenders are going to the back, where they belong.

I put a well in on my 1930rpu, I laid it out from the dimensions that came with the well. I made my marks on the bottom side, and took a panel cutter and put a very slight mark on the fender for the bend line then used vice grip with the wide flange on them and bent alittle at a time all the way around till it was bent enough, also cut the corners with the mark on the back I was able to get a sharp corner, very little cut on the backside, it came out very nice.
