Side mirror for standard Roadster.

After almost getting side-swiped pulling onto the motorway, yesterday I've decided enough is enough. The rear view with the canopy up is not flash.

I want to mount a mirror on the driver's side of the car. I'm thinking that the stanchion mounted mirrors that Macs et al have could be a good way to go.

Two questions: Is there enough meat in the stanchion to allow me to drill & tap for the mirror? And, does anyone know what thread size the mirrors are? I'm too tight to pay big coin for a pair of stanchions which have the mounting hole set up. :)

Failing that are there any other options?

Thanks in advance
Mike.

Mike,
I'm not sure what year roadster you have or which mirror you are talking about. On my 29 RPU one of the mounting screws for the stanchion is taken out and the mirror post screws in it's place. Having said that, 30/31 are probably deferent.

Mount wing windows and than mount 3 inch mirrors on each side wing window, they are both in the catalogs. The mirrors clamp on just like the wing window glass. Or try this set up. I like it but I'm also thhinking about the 'clip-ons' for the wing windows on my roadster.

skip, the hatted one in back ground.

I just have the clip-on mirrors that fasten to the outside edge of the windwings. They look ok, and sure give you more visibility. I have the driver's side one angled a bit so I can see any traffic in the lane to my left.

The windwing clamp on type shook too much for me. I mounted the post type in the stanchion hole in my 30 std. roadster. It threaded right in and is nice and steady.

I have one on each side of my 28 Roadster, throught the lower stanchion holes. I had to bend each one to suit, and ended up putting a convex mirror on the right side. Its nice to see if there is anything coming!

I have a mirror mounted in the stanchion on a 30 standard. There was a hole already drilled in it when I bought it,so I enlarged it and tapped it to fit a mirror I bought.Been there for years now,so I guess it will stay.
