While I cannot speak for what you are asking, I am curious if U.S. Patents apply to products made/manufactured in your country and then imported into the U.S.?

.

I can't answer it either, but I think that it is a very important question, that you should get the answer to, before getting in too deep.
MIKE :)

We are still a few weeks away. will inform once ready. There pos will only be one supplier ( Retailer )in the USA due to the costs involved. We are currently talking to them. Winter has arrived in NZ but i can smell the salt calling.

I would contact Bill Sturm for info regarding these snaps. He is very knowledgeable on all upholstery items,
We need some of these so we look forward to your success. Please make sure you copy an original snap and not a repro,
Thanks and good luck,
Ken

FYI
I had been trying to get 6 from LeBaron Bonney for over a year. The last I heard from them they were in the final stages of approval / production.
FL&WVMIKE had some NOS and I purchased from him.

If you are copying an exact duplicate of original, there could not possibly be a patent still in force even if there was one in 1928.

They only last for 17 to 20 years from memory.

It was interesting that Henry Ford battled the "road carriage "patent of Seldon for many years, until the patent ran out.

Yes same as original, Beleive patent lasts 20 years, As know one can tell me who ever produced them no problem. Perhaps we will do a patent on them.

In going through the parts bins of my Grandfather's Garage, I came across 46 fasteners, nickle plated and, of course NOS. Not sure of their aplication, but they match the illustration in my parts book as 95497-s6. Might these be of help in this project, or can anyone help identify their correct aplication?

Quickchange, Please make sure they function properly and are durable. Do you have any of the original stock to copy?
Please do not copy the later reproductions!
I purchased some original nickel plated stock from a vender at the Green Bay National Convention...they work great! Prior to finding the originals, I purchased from 3 vendors over the previous 6 years...these vendor purchases were later reproductions and they just did not work. The reproductions were very dificult to install without damaging them and once installed they often didn't keep the side curtain captured to the body socket. The small engagement "cogs" would deform and then begin sticking so as to not engage the body socket. If you did get them to hold, they would often "stick" in the body socket so as to not release and the only way to get the fastener out was to destroy it. I wasted quite a few due to the low quality. Needless to say, I guard my stock of spare originals.
I could write a book on this one! A short book anyway!

Not sure of the type of "fastener" you are going to reproduce but there is a series of photos of them in the Parts Price List.

There the Ford part number is listed for each.

Contact the Ford Archives (The Henry Ford/Benson Ford Research Center) for blue prints. See the STICKY for contact information.

According the the Model A Ford Parts Price Lists, the Model A part numbers were either A-24562: Single Snap Fastener or A-24563: Double Snap Fastener.

Did Ford change the part numbers on them?

i think the one Derek is planning to reproduce is A24566-56 "Flush Type Fastener" that fits into A24579-56 (pg 57 of the 7-1-1931 Parts Price List).

The parts book I took the picture in was a 1936. However, it lists many A parts. Most of the parts left in the bins are late T and early A. Unsure if they re-numbered the buttons. Just trying to be of help.

I too have been waiting for good ones for my Model T side curtains and would order them if there good quality

You cannot patent anything again Derek.

The same item can only ever have ONE patent on it ...ever.

Well. it can have several patents on the same item , if all the patents pertain to new ideas.

It has to be "novel" meaning a new idea/invention and it has to be useful, ie it has to have a functional purpose.

Also, once a new idea is public knowledge, without any protection, ie, a provisional patent, it is un-patentable.
