Any tricks or ideas on how to align the passenger-side chrome on a 40 coupe? Primary issue is the quarter panel trim is off approximately half an inch with the passenger door trim. Modify the trim connectors, widen trim holes? Other ideas?
How about the "reveal" [?] in the side of the body? I assume that it also does not line up. There is some movement available in the trim, but not that much. Got any pictures?
Are the body & the door feature lines aligned? If not it's a door adjustment problem. Then the next step I'd take is a trim fastner mod, Last is a hole mod. 1/2" is alot.
Don't start redrilling holes - yet! Make sure the the "reveal" is lined up (as already mentioned) and the holes should align at the same time. Typically if trim doesn't line up it means there's a problem on how the door hangs and / or the body needs shimming. I just put my '40' body back on the frame and had to shim the front of the body to get everything to align pretty closely. Attached is the before and after. Good luck.
Don't mess with the trim until the "body lines" line up. Then the trim will line up. Resist the temptation to enlarge the trim holes. It will turn into a disaster.
Good suggestions on checking body mounting etc. The reveals on both sides of the car aren't too bad and are close enough for "govt. work" and the doors fit the openings nicely.
