shut off valve lube

My shut off valve was leaking a bit, and I have some new packing. I notice that Bratton's has some sort of lube to put on the packing. I don't have this. What kind of lube would work? I've heard that graphite might be a good choice. Thanks,

Once you remove your valve and disassemble take some tooth paste and seat the valve. may have some burrs from rust etc.

Dow's Molykote 3452 is excellent although a little pricey. It is impervious to nearly all solvents, and is labeled as a valve product. I got mine at Motion Industries.

I liked Mike V's suggestion and sprayed inside the valve where the packing goes with silicone lube. I then liberally soaked the new packing with it. I carefully pushed the new packing in far enough to install the gas valve pack nut (A-9195-B). I gently snugged up the nut so as not to damage the threads, thinking that if it leaked I could tighten it more. I let the cat sit for an hour with the valve "off". Another hour with the valve "on". There were no leaks. I've driven since and there is no leaking into the car. Thanks for the suggestions.

do you have to go thru the security screening to get it?
No, you get it at aircraft or pilot supply shops. Typically located "near" an airport.

There should be one at either Van Sant or Doylestown (or both)
