shouldnt the rotor move

I was just checking my dist. and had it all the way retarded then pushed the lever to full advance. The bottom plate moved but the rotor position did not?? What is wrong??

The plate that the points are fastened to moves but the rotor does not.

Nothing, rotor is fixed on the shaft, your moving the plate the points are on.

That is the way it should work. You are changing the timing by moving the points relative to the cam. Not that the lever only attaches to the bottom plate of the distributer.

I would call that the upper plate. The bottom plate is the one the condenser attaches to.
