Should I switch to 12 volt?

Yes 6v positive ground worked for many years but all manufacturers did go with 12v negative ground.

One of the big reasons manufacturers went to 12v is it's cheaper because 12v wires can be a smaller gauge. May not seem like much per car, but when you build a few thousand+ cars the cost of copper wire goes up.

Get a 6 volt alternator go from 20 amps to 60 amps, same everything else. Things you will need a 6 volt alternator, possibly new fan belt. Now go out at night with your headlights on and be able to honk your horn if you like.

This is my opinion, I've had Model A and Model B Fords for over 30 Years. I am not a mechanic, its just a hobby for me. I find it much easier to solve problems on cars with 12V and juice brakes. I found out that 6V parts cost more, as does mechanical brake parts. I have cars with good mechanical brakes and they work fine. If they need rebuilding I switch them over to 40 ford juice brakes. Its just easier for me. Joe
