Shocks

I am wondering if original Model A's came with shocks or if that was an aftermarket addition. It seems like many of the ones I see do not have shocks.

Does anyone have experience with buying shocks kits and installing them? If so, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

All Model A's came with Shocks originally. Over the years, a lot of them got removed since people think that the Model A is just fine without them. They are wrong. A Model A needs the shocks. You can find reproduction shocks at any of the Model A Suppliers. Rebuilt ones are also usually able to be found. Get ready for sticker shock.

In my case they were removed because they were locked so solid the arms bent on them.

I am considering doing friction shocks until I can afford a nice set of Stipes repros. I know they won't look "right" but figure its better then nothing and can hold me over because I have quite a few things ahead of them on my list.

Original shocks that have been in service for a long time, can be difficult to repair due to being "frozen" with rust. Proper tools and fixtures are needed for repair.
There are many good artcles out there describing the proper methods of repair.

Don't waste your money on friction shocks for street use.

They aren't all that cheap and you have to adjust them about every day on a long trip. One of mine broke off the mounting tab along the way.

Maybe OK for competition where you don't drive day after day.

Yeah after posting I took a look and didn't seem like I was gonna save a whole lot going with friction. I thought they were cheaper but stand corrected.

:DRichard was that you on the Model A Times Tour With the broken bracket? For RTC1930. If you have your heart set on friction shocks the best price is Speedway Motors.
