shock issues help

my are really bad. the arms are falling out is there an alternitive to original shock? friction? others?
 
I have a set of shocks that are excellent but not original that improved my ride significantly. My car has new springs front and rear and each leaf has a beveled edge. So what? Right, the car needed shocks. These are tubular gas shocks from Dick Pirkl, Tubular Conversions, 608 573 7433. Priced about $340 plus shipping.
 
Good reproductions of originals are available. Are you in Northumberland, UK? I've heard early (1950's) MG shocks will work also.
