Shock Absorber Questions

I am presently reassembling a 1928 Tudor that was purchased completely disassembled. I have two questions about the shocks, 1st 1 st is stamped p4116
with HECo stamped in casing. There is no other markings. The other is stamped P1932 with HECo also stamped. I am unable to determine which units are CW and which units are AC.. My other question is, that two of the units have the "Dog bone" shock link that will not attach to my "ball" on the axle. Can you adapt the dog bone style to Ball on the axle? I have attached some pics of the shocks

As Bob said, there are not model A shocks. But, maybe I'm not seeing things correctly, but, do you have them attached to the brake arms ?

No I am unable to attach to the brake arm. Thanks for the shock identification chart, the pictures more resemble the 34 or 35 Shock. It looks like the gentlemen I purchased the car from ( now deceased) picked up the wrong shocks at a flea market!!!

Just a little help for you,....if you don't mind.

1. The spring perch bolt doesn't look seated?
2. The tie rod is on backwards, bolts to the back,
grease fittings to the front, in 1928. I couldn't find the
date change in the JS.
3.The steering arms changed in Sept.28. You could have
a combination of mismatched parts; tie rod and/or one
or both steering arms. You will find this out when you " set the toe ".

It is attached to the front brake actuator in the picture.

D.J. and lwanhemm...
Excellent observations... just to help out here's another one I see. The lower spindle bushing looks to be sticking up too high.. and the small sheet metal retainer cap between the axle and lower spindle bushing is missing with the felt retainer.
The spindle bushing needs to be flush with the top of the lower spindle boss. it's OK if it protrudes below, but not above.
Definately it looks like the spring perch is not seated. The lower perch nuts must be tight!! I use my heaviest of impacts and tighten them well. I concur on the other observations as well

On to the shockss.. I think these will almost certainly hit the brakes rods. I believe the 32 shocks are lower profile than these and if I remember they are close.

Don't feel bad... it's always good to have all these Model A friends looking out for you.

Larry,

Yep....missed the felt and the tin!
Also, forgot the nut on the backing plate.

I guess that should keep him busy for awhile,...and he didn't even ask!

Wow!!! I thank You for your observations. First teh dog one connector is not connected to the front brake actuator, (the dog bone is just hanging down; poor picture} I havn't tightened the spring perch bolts yet, until I have things properly aligned. Thirdly thank you for correcting me on the tie rod installation. I tried to find a description of how it should be installed but failed. Larry I will check on the lower spindle bushing to see if it is installed correctly. Again I thank you for your help because with out your help I would be in real trouble!!!!
