Shock absorber grease retainer cup placement...

What is the correct placement for the shock absorber grease retainer cups, A-18059?

The cups are not symetrical or uniform as far as the placement of the round hole is concerned as there is more metal on one end than the other.

So, is the top retainer (shock arm to shock link) placed so that there is more metal on the top or on the bottom?

Is the bottom retainer (shock link to front spring perch) placed so that there is more metal on the top or on the bottom?
Thanks.

on all model A shock links the grease retainers the off sets go up. and that means on the shock arm as well as the spring perch`s. the early AR`s did not have an off set.

For me, a picture is worth a thousand words. Based on an article in the 1967 Restorer, Vol 12 Issue 1 Pages 7-8. Quote: "the hole in these parts is not in the center and the offset side is assembled down at the shock arm and up at the perch ball". This makes sense to me since the thicker end of the cups would continue to cover the opening in the link as the internal assembly is compressed by the end plug and the perch end slightly during operation.

Pictures found in a fine point article in the Jan-Feb 2007 Model "A" News (Vol 54 No. 1) on page 28 appear to confirm this setup. Unfortunately poorly molded rubber seals can shift the cups to be less effective.
