Any fordbarners have any experience shipping sheetmetal {fenders} by Grayhound Bus seems reasonable! How would they have to be packaged etc. any previous methods of shippint 1/2 way across country would be helpfull...

A wardwobe box from U-haul fits front fenders perfectly, Box costs about $20, but saves alot of hassle. Still have to use another piece of cardboard to make and end cap lid. For packaaging I have switched to using the padding from furniture store. The ones out of Lazy Boy boxes is great, they usually just throw it out anyway and is free just for hauling it off. Rod

Greyhound works great as long as the depot is close to both people in the deal. I've used a table saw to cut down boxes, then tape and wrap in shrink wrap. Place address lable on BOX before shrink wrap.

I have had fenders shipped to me that way, they were just bubble wrapped and taped up like a mummy. The price was less than 1/4 of UPS.If you're near a regular depot it is nice.I would have to hand carry my stuff to my local Greyhound stop from a parking garage just over a half mile away. Then I have to babysit it,the stop is a storefront coffeehouse that has no room for packages inside. The big stuff stays on the sidewalk until it is loaded. For pickup it is best to be there when the bus arrives too.The parts will be sitting on the sidewalk. They won't get stolen, the place has tables on the sidewalk and you just are not going to walk off unless you have that reciept in hand from inside. About 35 miles from me is a regular depot that will fill out your paperwork, take your package, and send you on your way. They can also call you when you get a package and you can pick it up the next day if you like.I like the Greyhound system, the tracking system seems to be up to date right up until you pick it up.I bought a pair of fenders out of California that had made 11 different stops/changes.Every one came up on the tracking service as soon as it was changed.I bought some chainsaw parts a few weeks ago from Colorado.I was given a USPS tracking number, and all I ever saw was they left Colorado on a certain date. The tracking system still said the same thing the day after they were delivered.I watched the guy scan the package when I got it and signed the delivery confirmation.

I do pretty much what Keith does. However, I don't have to baby sit the items because there is a bus depot here. I use bubble wrap and then a cling wrap. Both are sold at U-Haul or Staples. I use a layer or two of each depending on the quality of fender(s). Rear fenders can be doubled up.

I've sent many fenders that way and never had a problem. It is considerably cheaper than other methods (USPS, UPS, FedEx).

I've had good luck scrounging boxes from our local bicycle store. They occasionally get bikes in from England and the boxes are quite sturdy and large(for those times when you need a big box). Has anyone sent wheels via Greyhound(w/o packaging)? Curious what it costs to get a rim across the country.
