Shipping cost

Whenever I have stuff shipped up here, I always try to have the vendor ship priority mail first, if it is small enough to fit in one of the offered prepaid usps boxes. It is the best value for the buck. UPS & FEDX screw us big time on shipping to Alaska. It's like they have a license to steal, and they don't use any lube! IMO: Bill

Hey Barry-ct
You are correct. These companies are ****** us on the shipping. I ordered some brake lines , spanner wrench and 2ea small steel round caps for the ball joints. They quoted me $47.00 shipping . All these parts can fit in a $6.00 USPS priority box , but they do not ship USPS. I told them if they did not get creative in the shipping they can forget this order and any future orders. You see last year I spent over $7,000.00 at this place and would hope that they would do something about keeping me as a customer. Well when it was all done they shipped for $22.00 but I still think that they are a rip off.

I just read that Fed Ex bought UPS. They're gonna call it "Fed Up"...

Nothing new, yet overdue! DD

Yes large companies can get discounts from UPS or as in my companies case WWE which is an agent for UPS. Regardless UPS STILL charges a fee for daily pick-up that is paid by all AND they can raise at any time. Second, the price of boxes and tape and the such can also be a factor, depending on volume too....so there is a fair bit of "other" expenses on top of an "Discounted" UPS rate.

I recently bought a ton of sheet metal parts for my '40 pickup. Rear floor, cab supports, mounts, etc. Every part around the bottom of the cab and it came from Northern Classic Trucks. A huge box sent from Michigan to Tennessee for $31.00. Can't beat that. Great people who are honest and fair.

I had a man in Georgia wanting my wire wheels. When we checked UPS and FedEx they wanted close to 60.00 each to ship them. They have some new pricing system that takes into account the weight and box size and assesses a surcharge accordingly. Then there is the fuel surcharge which was another 19.00 for all 4 wheels.
From now on I will ship all my small parts by USPS flat rate if possible and toss the rest in the scrap bin.

Sent 2 vent window frames just part that window is in yesterday to chromer in Tenn.Ups 17.00 for 7lb USPS 8.45 2 day.UPS 3-5 day ship.Sick of UPS and FED-UP

That Fastenal shipping program for heavy and bulky items sounds like it really may have some merit. Especially if you have a location nearby. I think I will check it out.

Package size makes a huge difference. I just shipped a large (52" long) 22 lb package from East coast to CA for $80. if it had been 48" or less in length, shipping would have been only about $40.

I was just asked to reduce shipping on an auction..I have to think if the buyer thinks that my providing package (sometimes a problem), and me taking it to the post office (often to stand in line,) and then having it delivered to his door, (rain or shine) is not worth the few bucks I have asked for, above actual shipping cost, has no value,, He probably doesn't really want the item anyway. Just my $0.02.

I just got a email from USPS tonight stating they will have yet another rate Change coming April of this year. This time surprisingly International and Domestic First Class mail will be going down 4.3-6.1%. Strange as they just had a drastic rate increase Jan 27th

i ordered a brake cam washer from Macs (new York) to Va. was $ 11.49 where a simple envelope and a $ 0.50 stamp would have sufficed :
Fed Ex claims has to charge more for rural areas ( 5 miles from city)
