Shark fin jack restoration

I have my shark fin jack (stamped steel and riveted together) taken apart for restoration and found what looks to be a stamped bit of light sheet metal similar to how a seal is constructed. Maybe a spacer for the vertical shaft as it was found in the base. It is mangled badly and exact shape is not apparent. Possibly it may have been a straight strip and spaced the guide as it slides up and down? Anyone know what this is and where it fits? I am sure it was mangled by the workings of the 2 gears in the base. If you recognize it what would be a good replacement? Thanks

Some closer inspection shows the shape to be a 1/4" channel approx. 4". I suspect it was straight and helped align the small lower fin as it moved in the vertical jack body channel. But without a filler in the channel, why have it as its still rather sloppy fit.

Another 'shark fin' episode. I sold a complete tired jack recently and the customer wants one 'perfect' internally??? David is Right- don't ever use these. Newc

Sometimes you get slapped for asking a valid question JD. I did not see that you mentioned using it, just restoring it. Good for you!
