Selling my 1935 pickup through Craigslist and got this as a reply. Kind of reminds me of the Nigerian thing..... any opinions?

" Hi,
I am interested ,and you should consider it sold .Actually ,I am
buying it for someone and payment would be through PayPal . I am
working in a ship and most of time i am out to sea.So it is an agent
that would be coming for the pick up.
I would be expecting your prompt reply, with the name and the
email address on your PayPal account so that i could make the payment
asap and i will appreciate if you could send more pics as i would
not be seeing it in person and pick up should be at a designated
place or your residence.And lastly , i am offering additional $ 100
to your final price for you to keep it off from other offers."

Dont respond. This is coming from a teenager who has delt with scamming and problems like this for a while now. I can see a scam like it's one of our ol' Flatheads, it stands out.

it's a scam but just for fun ask him his full name residence address and phone number....tell him you want to give him a call...you will never hear from him again!

1) he's already asking for your account info
2) he conveniently can not meet you in person
3) he is offering more than you are asking
4) the language is too formal for someone "working in a ship"...(my dad worked onboard a ship, not "in" it)
5) doesn't sound like any car guy I've met in the last 50 years

O.K. guys this is what I sent hi lets see if he responds.......
"Hi,
Tell you what, why don't you give me your full name, a residence address ,and phone number so we can talk about the details. Seems like a lot of people involved and I'd like to talk to the one at the top. Thanks, I will be expecting a quick reply."

Ask him to send the extra hundred he offered to pay, as a goodwill gesture. Money Order of course.

Ive sold a number of things on C/L and get one of these scam responses at least 50% of the time. I never sell anything from my home. I meet them with a friend at the local Target parking lot. Public and secure and Target typically has very high quality camera security.

Ive had great luck with my sales this way.

DO NOT EMAIL THEM! Unless you want to receive every scam email and viagra ad in the book...

First sign of a craigslist scam.... does not mention the item being purchased or the price.

On the buying side look for prices too good to be true then cut a sentance out of the add and put it in google to see if it comes up on 20 craigslist sites.

Also going around are Fedex notices saying your package is at the post office and click a link (hmm how would fedex get your email....). And an IRS one regarding a refund...(again, don't recall a box for email on the 1040)

The guy actually responded with a name and real address in Anchorage, Al . I googled the address and it is an actual address just not sure if its his. Still no phone number. ..............then I got this one which seems really promising!

"Hello this is likely to be random but you appear delightful in your post. Want to get together during the weekend? I'm not a weirdo, just feeling naughty. If you are interested, chat with me on my private dating profile (it's like facebook for adults), zero cost to signup! My pictures and my cell # are all on there. After you login, Im going to deliver a private message so you'll know it's me. There are too many fraudsters on here so if you're real, call me and become friends and maybe more? You never know! Alright, I won't trouble you again! "

She must dig me because I talk dirty on my Craigslist ad! :)
