Serial number question

The 26 touring car I got over the weekend. The serial number on the engine from what I have read puts the motor at 1923. Did they allso have a number on the frame. I think I remember reading that one time. I am having to file for a lost title.

Some time in early 1926 Ford started stamping its frames on the top of the right rail. It's usually not easy to see the serial number if the body is still on because it's located under the passenger would be sitting in the front.

On my '26 Coupe, the floorboard next to the seat is removed and the number is on the top of the frame near the passenger door post. Right in plain view and not covered by any splash apron or body. I did not have numbers on the frame of my '24 or '22. Is the frame from the touring a '26 or '23? If it is a '26 frame the number will be there assuming it is not caked with rust and dirt.

I don't know yet I have not looked. I will look when I get home. I hope it is. Title stuff is getting to be a pain in the butt. And the DMV ladies are no help at all.

They began stamping numbers on the frames in December 1925, four months into the 1926 model year, so early 1926 frames will be unmarked. If it has the wide rear cross member (26-27) but no number, it's an early 1926 frame made in late 1925.

As the other guys said, the number is usually on top of the right frame rail under the floorboard. But sometimes it's on the left rail. You may have to apply some steel wool and clean off decades of crud to see it.
