I need the instructions of 40 ford sending unit from bob drake .How much to cut the rod and bend the rod.

I don't know the answer but if you get DRAKE the sending unit to give accurate gauge readings with the OEM gauge please let us know. I assume you are talking about the gas tank sending unit. Correct?

There should be instructions in the box. You need to measure depth of tank and then cut rod accordingly.

Btw - like many others (6 volt) I could not get the darn thing to work and it had nothing to do with length of rod

The resistance of the sending unit is different than what the 6V gauge wants. I put a 33 ohm resistor in parallel with the sender. while not 100% accurate in gets you in the ballpark.

We have installed many Drake fuel senders. They just a resistor, and will never be as accurate as the original King-Seely senders. Measure the fuel level thru the hole for the sender to determine the gas level. Bend the float arm accordingly. Be sure that the float clears any baffles when in place. If not, the mounting holes in the flange may need to be altered. Attach a grounding wire to one of the flange screws to insure a good circuit. We try to set the float so the gauge shows empty with about a quarter tank left. It can take a lot of fiddling, but they will work.

Don't know if yours is the same as the one I just installed in my '39 but attached is the instruction sheet with a chart for cutting and bending the arm. If image is too small to read, let me know. Click on attachment for larger view.

39topless: The image is a bit too small to see clearly.
If possible, please enlarge and post.

Thanks. Opps! Now I see the PDF.
