I remember getting "strip maps" from AAA years ago. They were about 4 inches wide by 8 inches or so and, as I recall, unfolded across the narrow ends like an accordion. You could also get them to mark a route for you with something like felt marker. haven't though about those in a long time.

In 1954, my father was transferred to Okinawa (Air Force). My mom, brother and I followed some months later when housing was available. Mom drove across the US from Tampa to Seattle in our 1952 Nash Statesman. When we got checked in at Ft. Lawton to wait for the ship arrival, she broke down and cried with relief. I think a lot of folks have no idea what service families endure.

We used those AAA maps to navigate and only got lost once, briefly. Remember, no interstates in those days!

I just use my iPhone 6 plus. The screen is plenty big enough for my old eyes plus both music and directions come from the bluetooth speaker in the door pocket.

I was in Deadwood when an antique motorcycle tour was passing through and when they stopped ,I noticed a similar item on there gas tanks. The tour was from New York heading to California.

My poor Sister-In-Law knew NOTHING about "DIRECTIONS"??? I thought of a Compass for a hood ornament, but was afraid she would wreck out, watchin' it!
There was a Penguin that only new NORTH & only travelled that direction, until he got stranded at THE NORTH POLE!!! I wonder if his name was CORRIGAN??
