I'm replacing the gasket on my sediment bowl (neoprene, because that's what I have) and wonder if I should apply a thin coat of permatex on each side, or only on one side, or none at all. Thanks as usual for any advice!
You will be sorry using a rubber gasket there. Use a cork one. The gas will soon eat up the rubber one.I have all the sizes if you need some.I would need the size of the opening. There are several diff sizes. ken ct.
I'll order some cork ones and, in the meantime, just live with the neoprene one.
The one I'm replacing was in there for almost ten years, and (you're right) it was a little the worse for wear, but still doing the job. Thanks for the advice.
Good question about cork or neoprene, got me thinking , I used neoprene on my gas gauge. It's been little over a year now. Do you think I should change it to cork.

The problem is neoprene. Neoprene will swell a bit when in contact with gasoline. If the so called "neoprene" rubber gasket is made for todays fuel, it should be ok. Because neoprene invented around 1931, has become some what of a generic name, like Brillo instead of steel wool. Buda rubber or Viton is made for todays ethanol laced fuels, but folks still refer to it as neoprene. Check out McMaster -Carr, and you will see what I mean. If the gasket is from a reputable auto parts dealer, it should be ok.
