Sedan rear fender bracket

OK I have a 1930 tudor I am working on and when I practice fit the rear fender there is a gap where the little carriage bolts to the fender bracket. Can I just put a washer or two to take up the space or does the bracket need to be bent? How would you bend the bracket?

Do you mean where the end of the bracket bolts to the lip of the fender?

Often times the lip isn't quite as vertical as it should be. Would that fix the space?

Greg brought up a good point I hadn't thought about. Maybe your reinforcement clip is missing.

Marco posted some good pictures a while back showing how the fender lip should look when viewed straight on, and after seeing them I can notice how several Model A's aren't quite as vertical as they should be in the fender lip.
