Sedan Rain Gutter Question

I have never seen it mentioned on an A site but have seen on other forums where seam sealer is used around drip rails and the like. Should some kind of sealer be put behind the channel the gutter snaps into. I have a 30 town sedan so the top material does not extend down to the gutters and this makes the gutters appear very leak prone.

Also I was planning to put my gutters and top on after paint but after thinking about it I don't see how I would do this without messing up the paint. I'm thinking a better plan is to do before paint. I assume most others do this before paint, right?

I painted gutters after install. Also, I put a bead of 3M black weatherstrip adhesive behined that backing plate. Been 10 years since. No problem.
