We are working to get a buddys 30 sedan up and driveable. We have just replaced the wiring harness and in the process did not find any connections for the dome light and switch. Can some one tell me where these are normally found.

On my fordoor the switch is in the passanger door pillar. I believe the wiring runs along the roof and down th windshield pillar to the junction box on the firewall. I remember there being a picture of the wiring in the 'How to Restore your Model A' vol 6?

I kept looking for another wire around the dash area and none was to be found. We don't know if it was working before he bought it.

the power wires go`s from the terminal box up the winshield pillar all the way back to the dome light, the ground wire go`s from the dome light to the switch, and the other wire on the switch is grounded to the body.

Hi,
on your dome light. The book says the ground is connected to the body. You will get better lights if you run a ground doen to the battery. Same is true for all electrical parts.ues a seperate grounding wire. The steel body is not as efficient as a copper wire.

While it's true that copper is a better conductor than steel, due to the mass of steel in the car body, it is an excellent ground source. The key is all connections must be clean and tight.

My barn find '29 Briggs Town Sedan had the wire going from the terminal box, under the gas tank, through a conduit of insulation sprayed the same color as the interior sheetmetal up the driver's side wind shield post, over the windshield where it terminated at a screw in the wooden header. A seperate wire, connected to the same screw, was threaded thorough holes in the center of the wooden cross bows of the roof and then to the passenger side center door pillar down to where a switch was mounted. Then back up the door pillar to the center of the cross bows where it was again threaded through holes directly to the dome light.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but on which terminal does the dome light wire tie in at the terminal box?

On my Frankenvicky, the dome light wire is soldered to the cowl light crossover wire, and the connection was left bare. I didn't think that was correct. From my recollection, the wiring diagram I have (the version for one-bulb headlights plus cowl lights) doesn't show a dome light at all.

Don't forget to leave enough excess wire at the dome light so you can lower the fixture if something bad happens with the connections at the dome light. You don't want to damage the head liner trying to get to the connections on the dome light. Ed

Is this a Model A Victoria? Does it have a dome lamp switch on the door post? First wire goes from the terminal box post with the solid yellow wire to the switch. Second wire goes from the switch to the lamp. Ground wire goes from lamp to body.

If your dome lamp is wired with the cowl lamps, then it would come on when you turn on your cowl lamps.

Yes. 1931 Model A Victoria leatherback. The dome light switch is on the passenger door pillar.

I was mistaken earlier. I chased down the switch wire, and it is connected to the terminal box post. Next, I'll have to figure out what that stray wire is doing connected to the cowl light crossover wire.

Thanks, and sorry for the late reply.
