28 open pickup ... which mounts first the seat cushion or the seat back? since the backrest sits on 2 brackets at the bottom and then 'snaps' into a grove under the wood belt, i assume it goes in first, but when i tried this, i was not able to make enough pressure to smush (?sp) it enough to allow the 2 'legs' under the seat cushion to go behind the metal riser. maybe i need to borrow a coupla NFL linemen to help me!!!:)

Are you using repro springs? I understand many are taller and stiffer than original seat springs.

When I had my RPU (and I wish I had it back...) I had purchased springs that were already covered from LeBaron Bonney. That would make them new springs for both the seat and the back. I found that they fit if you put the seat cushion in first, then the back. Push down on the top of the back spring, starting at one end. It should start to fit under the wooden rail. Then "work" your way across. You may have to push the bottom of the back in and down as you are doing this. It's a bear, but you can do it. :)
