Scammer in FL

I recently tried to buy a KRW engine stand from a guy in Edgewater, FL. He was advertising it on Craigslist. I agreed to pay the price he was asking, a day later he tells me his brother thinks it's too cheap. A few more days of wheeling dealing and the price almost doubles. Fine, we have a deal... I thought. Now he tells me brother finds one on the net, they want more. We agree to a little bit more with the added condition seller pays for shipping prep. I arrange trucking, the seller says he wants to be paid through WalMart (I guess you can wire money with them?) All set to go. I call to get address for the money and he tells me he wants to be paid more money for shipping prep. I mention we had a deal, he says screw you then I'll put it on eBay.

If you see a KRW engine stand on eBay from Edgewater, FL in the next few weeks be forewarned!

Luckily I only lost a small deposit with the trucking company, could have been much worse.

I would have told him to shove it @ the first price increase, you just dont do that, post this guys name on here so we know who NOT to deal with.OMO ken ct.

A very similar scenario happened to me ON eBay a couple months ago after an auction by a very well known seller whose name many people here would recognize. Ultimately the item could not be bought for anywhere near the winning price (in fact, he kept raising the final number to more than 6 times the final price). I also walked, luckily.

*************** I don't know how he could have raised the price after bids were made on it, mayby the reserve ? is that what you mean? mayby it can be changed or raised if not met. What good does it do to mention this without saying who the recognizable name is? Now I have about 10 people in my mind I am thinking did something wrong and nine of them are innocent.

I was not so lucky a couple years ago when I bought a quantity of two 'NOS' items at a premium price each ($300 ea), only to receive damaged used ones (worthless at any price).

This was from a very well known flathead V8 person in North Carolina who also runs a large catalog business and attends and sell at national meets.

There was absolutely no way getting him to admit he either made a mistake or was wrong. (a six year old could have told you they were used and broken).

Big name famous people and businesses cannot be trusted either.
Dennis probably doesn't have a clue what goes on,he sure didn't when he hired Bob Jones to run his NOS parts, that old fox ran out of hen houses here in Ohio years ago.:o

Yes, I was able to get the right person involved and came away completely satisfied with a NOS purchase from that vendor.

Just for the record, I'm talking about a guy in Edgewater, FL not any vendor. His name is Michael Dean. And Mike in FL has the correct guy in his post. The ad started at $200... then we agreed to $400.. then $500 and that was were it ended, until I arranged shipping and he tried to extort more thinking I was committed with the trucking.

You give a person a price. Then you must stick with it. I've sold stuff on Ebay and got much less then the parts were worth. Had to go with it and I sent the parts off to the buyer. On the otherhand, I've sold things that went for much more then I expected.

I bought glass on the bay, the guy sent me a box of sand, he said he advertised it as a glass kit, so there you go, the bay sided with him and would do nothing. Haven't bought a thing there in the 2 years since. If I cant pay for it with a Visa Im not buying it, next guy who sells me sand can get a 100 dollar charge back. If a guy did that to you face to face with the uppy pricey you'd give him a nice face altering crack.

I think Dennis is an upright guy. I bought a NOS grille for my '50 Ford in 2003 at the Grand Nat show in Dearborn from his guy. I ate at the awards banquet dinner with Dennis at an Eastern Nat meet 2 or 3 years later and told him about buying the grille from him. He asked me if I got the install kit with it and I said no, he took my address and a few days later, I got the kit in the mail. I can't speak for his employees.

You have to watch them on craigslist too. I don't give any of them my credit card #. I won't buy if I can't see it with my own eyes. I learned the hard way. With both craigslist and Ebay.

Dave D, Edgewater is close to me. Travel through there once a month to go to the New Smyrna cruise. I saw that ad when it was $200 and debated if I should call. Then saw the price go up and knew I didn't need it after all. If in the end you strike a deal and need some on site to take possition and deliver to shipper, be glad to help.
