Saved 2 more from the scrap pile

Brought home 2 8BA's from a friend who had them stored in a shed for the last 30+ years. Too bad the roof leaked for the last 10 years. He was very upset to see that the water found it's way inside them. One has a tag on it from "Allstate" (Sears) that it was rebuilt, 0.040 overbore, 0.030 under on rods and mains. I'll bet that is just about the limit on that crank. I am going to pull the intake in hopes of a set of adjustable lifters, as many re builders used them. Well there still are many good parts like brackets, draft tubes, maybe a good cam core, etc. Just hate to see them junked!

If there are no cracks you can sleeve the blocks back to standard bore.

It would be great if that's all that was needed! A lot of water went down the intakes. In most of the ones I have taken apart in the past, it was the valve train that took the worst hit with rust. The lower end will usually free up with much less work.

I use a hole saw to free up the stuck pistons and a saw-all to cut the rods off. Then get the block Baked cleaned and Magged. Bore to 3 5/16. Yes the valves do pose the biggest problem, I have a block that I've been taking apart for several years now, hope it's good.

I dumped acetone/trans fluid in them and I will let them set. I hope to tear them down this winter, and salvage what I can. Just getting too hard to find one anymore that's not frozen up.

so many nice ones up my way I don't even look at a stuck one. No where to keep them all
