Saturday Cruise

Hello
Yesterday I did a little round trip over the swabian Alps and the Danube valley. Stopped at an airfield as usually there are old planes to be seen. This time the P51 Mustang "Louisiana Kid" was circling the place when I parked and I took a couple pics - what a sound of that mighty engine! Later I came into the Danube valley and followed the old road. There are a couple tunnels too narrow for two lanes so you have to wait for "green". On a long straight the blown Flathead stretched his legs. 130km/h at 2600 rpm in OD sounds lazy but is pretty fast to steer and take a pic.:D
Anyway, dog and me enjoyed the empty roads - will never sell this car, it is too much fun!

Yes, there is nothing like the sound of a radial engine. I can't imagine when the skies were full of them! Nice drive, thanks for sharing.

Well geez, now you guys have reminded me the mustang is not a radial, but I still stand by my statement !

That radial engine was in the P-47, as well as a bunch of bombers, etc. Later USA P-51 Mustangs came with a Packard built Merlin V-12, built under license from Rolls-Royce! Early Mustangs had an Allison.

very beautiful area. i was around Stuttgart in 1970 when in the us army. I really enjoyed your beautiful country, many great memories. thanks for the pictures
