35 locking spare hub cap stainless skin reinstalled over the casting. How would you roll the stainless back around the casting lip after removing dents and scratches? Any help would be greatly excepted. Thanks Banners.

I have never done that and have been curious too. I would guess, just gently tapping it with a small hammer, taking your time.

Will Mike, I got to thinking about this problem with the stainless being formed
over the casting part of the locking hub cap. And I am going to machine up a three formed roller plate that will compress the stainless around the casting. Just like Henry did it. So if we both live long enough I'll post a picture of it when it's finished. This will be my winter play time project. Chet

I think by tapping on the stainless you are stretching the metal. Rolling the metal you are forming the metal. I know I tried tapping and there was a lot of spring back (bouncing) in the stainless.

Marv,
So what do you think of a small rubber dead blow hammer? That would have the same effect as a leather mallet. It also has a smother face.

At the Early V-8 Eastern meet two years ago I had bought a dented hub cap. Dave Rehor looked at it and suggested I take the pick end of a metal forming hammer and a sand filled leather bag and tap out the dents from the inside. The bag would be placed on the outside of the hub cap. So far it seems to work.
