saginaw box and pitman arm

I'm putting a 525 box in a 39 going to a Chassis Engineering front end, keeping the flathead. One guy at Chassis Engineering says there might be some interference around the exhaust manifold, hence a drop mount. Calling back to find out the pitman arm they suggest, the next guy says the 525 box won't work with a flathead as it interferes with the block. I know I'm not the first person to attempt this as I've asked questions about this before on this chat line. Any experience and what length pitman arm?

Hmmmm - I'm putting in a C---y PS box w/4.3V6 and 5speed into a 40 p-up. I had to cut into the frame rail to get it to mount cleanly w/no exhaust interference. Here are a couple pics ....

I modified a stock 40 steering box mount and welded on the needed nuts so I can remove the box easily - one will require a hole in the frame rail to access. I'm still in the middle of doing this and the project has had to wait while I work to finish up the 32 in my avatar.

Anything is possible with a little thought and ingenuity. Actually, one of the Fordbarn members suggested sinking the box into the frame rail for clearance. I will replace the lost frame strength w/some steel peices and such once the box is installed and I know all is well.

Good luck ....

Ken, Where you able to use the stock steering mount plate? If so did you have to remove it from the chassis, as Tom T has ?

I did make a new mounting plate that moved the box as close to the frame rail as I could get and also drilled the holes to move the box down just a bit, cant remember exactly how much but it wasnt a lot. I once had a Saginaw 605 power box on there using the same mount and it cleared the Fenton headers also.
