Any thoughts as to a good method to raise the drivers side door to better align it to the striker plate ? Right now I need to lift the door by window frame as I close it for it to latch. I suspect the old owner was in reverse with door open and jammed it up. the hinge is like 1/8inch plate.

where is the slack , are the hinge pins wore, are the hinges bent, have you tried to adjust door with the hinge bolts, with out more info we cant give you muvh help, a close up pic of the hinges would be a great help, right now it seems your going to have to heat and bend hinges, or buy new ones

From the Shop Manual. Try these methods.

There is two bits of information needed that would determin the problem /correction. 1st.grab the rear bottom corner of the door and lift up on it is there any loose play can you work it up and down?.if so the hinge pins are worn. 2 with the door closed but not up onto the stricker plate look at the gap between the front of the door and the cowl ,is it tight at the bottom and wide at the top or is it even from top to bottom?
