sad day today

My recently retired salesman started selling Edsels in the fall of 1957.They bought a seperate building from their Ford franchise to house the Edsel dealership. When the decision was made to drop Edsel they were awarded the Mercury franchise.Probably done to avoid a lawsuit because of what they had spent on the building, tools, ect.I've read the Comet was supposed to be an Edsel. If that had played out that way Edsel would've made it .Jack said they had a promotion where every dealer got a pony for the little kids to ride. After a few days of cleaning pony poop that got old....

The Edsel wasn't a bad car in any way and the styling wasn't all that bizarre by fifties standards. It was mostly an example of herd mentality, the meme got started that it was a dud and then no one would have a car that was the butt of jokes. It was a time of mass conformity, moreso than today.

the 58 merc had self adjusting brakes and air ride if you wanted it.self lube systems were around for years before the edsel.their was nothing special about them all smoke and mirrows.ford tried to make out they had a whole new car a complete con.
