S.M.C. on a Canadian steering wheel.

Model "A" Fords

Senior Member
Since I have received so much interest on Canadian Model A Fords I thought I would get back to the 1930/31 steering wheel. Specifically the ones made by a company with initials S.M.C inside a circle. I have seen it on Canadian cars, including our personal cars.

When restoring my wheel I had to be careful to preserve the logo as for me it is part of my Canadian car. While restoring it I needed extra material which came from broken pieces off another S.M.C. wheel. I saved that piece with the logo, well because I could.

You can find the S.M.C. logo on the back of one spoke close to the hub. It is approximately 1/2" in diameter. I thought it may have stood for Sawyer Massey Company in Hamilton Ontario and have seen a few iterations they used but nothing the same as this logo. That doesn't rule it out but have no proof, either way.

They may have been on other countries wheels but only seen them on cars that were associated with Canadian manufacture, so far. Take a look and let us know where you see them. Is S.M.C. on your wheel. I've talked about it before but for those that know me, also know I am not going to quit until I find out.

Who is or was this company? If you google smc logo, make sure you have plenty of time because I have looked on lists with smc for days. This one for sure is not the only smc logo.
