i have a s-10 5 speed in my coupe . problem is when i use the brakes it takes alot of pressure with minamal results . i believe it is a leverage problem . anyone here have a 5 speed ? thanks .. steve

I'not that familiar with the s-10 conversion, but/ Brakes=hydraulic or mechanical? It's all about leverage. Original pedals and position?

Do you mean clutch? Because if you did then it's a mechanical advantage situation. If the T-5 is affecting your brakes I don't know where to start.

Do a search, there has been a lot of discussion about poor
breaking with mechanical breaks and the 5-speed.

I put a t-5 in my slant window, and my brakes work great, i did have to adjust the cross shaft . Sounds like it is in adjustment. People say try the hamb site there are as many here that use the t-5 as on the hamb .

good morning brent. my engine is mounted on float-a-motors with the t-5 trans, is there something i need to know. always appreciate your help.

brent , yes it is . what do you think ? ...... thank you all for your help & info . i agree its a leverage problem . im close but still need to adjust more .......... thanks .. steve

Generally speaking, the problem really isn't a leverage thing as much as things moving at the wrong time. :) In a stock application with the stock rear motor mounts, the engine is fixed within the frame and when the brake pedal pulls on the service brake cross-shaft, that motion is transferred into rotating the cross-shaft where it pulls on the 4 brake rods without any engine movement. With F-a-M mounts, it is easy for the engine and transmission to move rearward slightly due to the tension created by depressing the brake pedal, ...and while it may seem insignificant, it is enough to create a "spongy" lousy brake pedal. As an experiment, remove the floorboards and watch the engine while depressing the brake pedal and see if the engine assy. is moving. Then tighten the F-a-M bolts extremely tight where the engine won't move and go test drive (carefully with floorboards removed) and see if it won't make a difference.
