I just bought a new in the box Ryan overdrive....without instructions. Are there any tricks or pitfalls to avoid when I try to install it? It has an AL 92 serial #.
They are pretty straightforward . Just make sure your shift linkage has the proper throw I ended up making an adjustable link I have been running one in my 30 Tudor since 1987
I've oy had speedo cable issues once
Not synchro like the Mitchell so has a little whine but a nice cruising overdrive .
Don't forget the gear oil !

You might want to check what the gear ratio is. Ryan overdrives can be 33% or 23%. The 23% is a good match for a 378 R&P. The 33% is better suited for a 411 R&P. The ratio should be stamped on the side of the case. To convert if from a 33% to a 23% is a matter of changing out two gears; if you can find them.
i have a 23%, and really like it. after running it for a few years i modified the linkage so i don't have to move the lever as far to shift it. this made shifting quicker and easier with less grinding.
They are not produced anymore and I believe the gentlemen that was manufacturing passed away. All remaining spares were absorbed by Berts.. as they were a dealer for them.
I am running a 23% with a 3:54 and a HC Snyder head on my '30 Tudor. It's a great highway cruiser and the 3:54 makes is still great in town.
I concur with Tom on the 33% and 4:11. It depends on the body style/weight and engine.
